St. Denis Golf Club History

In 1965, on their way home after visiting the grave of their son Denis, Scotty and Mary Ann Foecking called the phone number displayed on a “land for sale” sign. After purchasing the property, Scotty, armed with a PhD in Chemical Engineering, teamed up with H. A. Burkhardt, a well-known Cleveland Metroparks officer, and designed St. Denis Golf Course.

Construction began on the original 9 holes in 1966. Scotty and Mary Ann, their 10 children, and Mary Ann’s parents Leo and Esther Clark cleared, re-contoured, laid pipe and planted the first 9 holes.

Over the years St. Denis has continued to evolve, with the addition of a second 9 holes, 2 lakes in play, paved cart paths, a driving range, and a party center. To this day, St. Denis remains family owned and operated.
